Different By Design

We Choose Aberdeen For The Following Reasons...

Easy Calving

Calving Ease 6 Bar 6 Ranch

Smaller sized newborn calves require very little or no assistance at calving time.

American Aberdeen Cattle make excellent mothers and raise healthy, well-developed calves for small property owners and farms.

Smaller calves eliminate calving headaches and sleepless nights, but still offer a highly valuable weaned calf.

While many breeds in today's cattle business have "chased extremes", ultimately sacrificing maternal traits, American Aberdeens are maternal by nature, with cattle that maintain a natural fleshing ability, shorter gestation period, higher conception rates and the ability to wean half their body weights - all while producing an end product that is superior in taste, texture and tenderness.

Pedigree

All registered American Aberdeen (AAA) trace their ancestry back to the original Angus genetics and Trangie Research Center in Australia. In 1929, the Research Center imported the top Angus bloodlines available to Australia. In 1964, the herd was closed to outside genetics and an emphasis was placed on performance testing, visual confirmation and weight gain on grass.

In this research environment, pure Angus genetics that are economically vital to commercial cattle were maintained in the closed herd.

In 1996, these feed efficient, docile cattle with superior carcass traits were imported into the United States.

From that early beginning and after decades of selection to moderate frame size came this exciting beef breed called American Aberdeen.

Genetics

American Aberdeen Cattle are naturally polled, and free of all known genetic defects, including eye cancer, and the dwarf gene .

Fullblood Aberdeen are moderate sized, naturally smaller than other cattle breeds. They are sometimes labeled as "miniature", however, they are not miniature, but a heritage breed and have remained the same size as the original cattle on Scottish farms.

6 Bar 6 provides EPDs on all of our cattle (using the Internal Genetic Solution (IGS) database) so we can make the best breeding decisions possible. This resource contains information on 20-million animals across the globe- making it the largest multi-breed beef cattle database in the world.

SMALL HERD SOLUTIONS - The American Aberdeen breed offers small-herd producers distinct advantages. Desirable for their smaller carbon footprint, their end product, and their superior efficiency on forage-only diets.  Aberdeen cattle also stand out for their docile nature and economics.

CROSSBREEDING ADVANTAGE -

  • Optimum-size cattle

  • Ideal beef portion size for modern diets

  • More ribeye per hundredweight

  • Reduced labor and calving problems

  • More pounds of beef per acre

  • Adapted for grass-fed operations

Whether you have 5, 50, or 500 cows, the same principles of controlling cattle size apply. Buying hay? It's just a fact, big cattle eat more per head than moderate framed cattle.
